APRIL 2019 PROMPT BETA’S TRUEMATE

Gamermom won February’s challenge, which means they get to pick April’s theme, and they chose Beta’s Truemate! More specifically, “Woe be to the truemate of a beta, for their mate will not know their scent.”

It’s open to interpretation, but there are also some + and - points.

-100 points if it passes the Bechdel test

+200 if you include misogynistic tropes (fridging, rescue the princess, psycho/evil ex (especially if the woman is not a villain in canon)

It’s a redux of a theme all the way back from April of 2016. It’s open to interpretation, but Foop does have some +Points and -Points for y’all.

Adding a real leprechaun (for St. Paddy's Day) gets -100

It’s open to interpretation. It has to have Alf or the show Alf (1986 in the United States) in the fic in some way much in the same way the songfic was in December’s challenge. Could be a conversation, someone watching it, Alf could make an appearance in SPN, etc.

Even though Alf was quite a crack-y show, your fic doesn’t have to be. This challenge is open to all types of fics, any kind of pairing (even no pairings at all), and any subject as long as it’s in the SPN’verse. If you don’t know what Alf is, consider yourself lucky ;) It’s very easy to Google Alf, and there are snippets of the series on YouTube.

There won’t be any +Points or -Points this month other than kudos, comments, and hits.

An Angel perceives the effects of sonic vibration on surrounding matter and believes they understand music more than a human ever could. Perhaps they do understand music more completely than people do."

This is an interesting way to look at it from an Angel's POV.

The fandom olds will groan at this, and the younger fanfic writers will wonder wtf is wrong with us, but just stay with me on this one because it can be fun :D

SONGFIC (via Fanlore.com): Any fic which include song lyrics. They can be interposed between sections of the story, given to a character who sings them, or they can be heard on the radio by one or more of the characters in the fic who react to said song.

Songfic has been deemed pro/blem/atic over the years, and it’s actually banned by FF.net and a lot of LiveJournal communities. AO3 allows it with a caveat: DO NOT POST THE SONG IN ITS ENTIRETY or your fic will be taken down by AO3 for legal reasons. It’s probably a good idea to tag it as songfic too so we don’t worry the mods at AO3.

Songfic doesn’t mean you have to write crack. It’s been disparaged over the years, but there are plenty of people who have written serious, very thoughtful songfic. It’s open to interpretation, so you can do whatever you want with it. We just ask that you have fun :)
